Why it’s Important to Feel Your Feelings & How Not to Get Stuck in Them
Feelings play an important role in helping you navigate life in ways that are aligned with your true self. They can help you connect to your higher self and your intuition. Your soul speaks to you through your feelings, and in many other ways as well.
Feelings will usually flow through you and get released, if you feel them fully and give them the space and time they need to be processed. There are many ways of listening in and letting them process - and of tuning in to your natural ebb and flow with them. You’ll have your own ways of doing this that work best for you.
However, you can easily also get stuck in feelings, and end up in repetitive emotional cycles. You may also push them away unprocessed - knowingly or unknowingly - and this is a totally normal part of being human.
The sad thing is, being stuck in cycles like this can result in chronic stress in your system and reinforce subconscious beliefs and patterns about how you feel about yourself and how feel in the world that are outdated and likely no longer necessary.
Those old ‘there & then’ beliefs, patterns and feelings from a long time ago may keep getting reinforced in your present day life - and they could be stopping you from drawing fully on what your life has to offer you in the here & now. It’s not your fault, it’s simply how we humans are wired. And the great news is you can do something about it.
Your body and your nervous system play an important role here. Below are some examples of what you can do. It’s great to combine them so they can can ‘feed into’ your system even more easily.
1. Observe yourself. Create a habit of observing yourself as you go about your day, without attaching any meaning or judgement to what you are observing. Being in this kind of awareness or mindfulness helps you shifts you into the present moment, and activates the Here&Now parts of your brain.
2. Ask yourself: Is the feeling I am having appropriate for what I am going through now? If not, a part of what you are feeling could be old.
3. Integrate mindful body-based practices into your day.
’Body’ is a great language to use to help you reprogramme your subconscious mind. Bringing awareness to your body and doing mindful practices helps you connect to the present moment and shift out of old repetitive feelings. There are so many things you can do, for example mindful yoga, qi gong or breathing, or tapping, or walking barefoot on the grass feeling into the sensations: connecting with your senses helps you be in the present moment. Remember, it may take some time to get steady results, so. I personally love walking barefoot on the grass and shaking my body.
4. Support your nervous system Your nervous system is at the root of being stuck in old cycles. You can support your nervous system with all of the above practices. I’m here to support you on your inner journey, to help you find your way home to your true self. I have walked my own journey home to myself for decades, during which I learned and trained in a wide range of approaches to help me get there. My body has played a central role in helping me transform, heal and embrace a new more fulfilling ways of being - and find my way home. I now weave all I have learnt together to help others find their way home, without having to take the long way I did to get there. I believe that working with your body and your nervous system - and embracing your true self - is key in creating a strong foundation from which you can access your full potential. I hope you’ll love this blog in which I share much of what I have learnt.
